This Woman Takes Selfies With Catcallers To Make A Strong Point & The Pics Will Make Your Blood Boil
Dear men: Talking to women and catcalling aren’t the same things. Nothing makes a woman’s blood boil than being catcalled on the streets.
Noa Jansma, a 20-year-old Amsterdam student, was pretty fed up with the day to day harassment.
Therefore, she made it a point to do something about it. She set up an Instagram account to document every incident of street harassment she came across. Throughout the month of September, Jansma took a selfie with every single creep who harassed her on the streets. Nonetheless, the catcalling creeps who were particularly oblivious of the motive behind the pictures seemed to oblige -smiling and even posing for the pictures with their arms around their victim.
The page @dearcatcallers was created in hopes of creating a global dialogue against the harassment most women face:
Documenting the actions of these men and putting them on display gives her all the more power. Moreover, from January 1st, 2018, catcalling will be punishable by law and violators will be subject to fines of up to 190 euros ($220) in Netherlands, Jansma’s native.
