What Happens When Cheesy Romance Covers Are Made By Normal People?

We should never judge a book by its cover

Unfortunately, we have a tendency to do exactly that. We judge books by their covers, and I mean that in the literal sense. For example, romance novels often have a steamy, corny, and over the top cover. The models are airbrushed in provocatively sensual poses because otherwise, people won’t buy the book

So they tend to look very unrealistic. Perfect makeup even when they’re in rain and chiseled features with musculature upon musculature. Hell, everyone has a perfect tan, and there are rainbows and unicorns coming out the wazoo.

Pretty unrealistic. So what happens if they’re more normal?

Kathleen Kamphausen, a photographer and photo editor, took it upon herself to recreate them. The models are everyday normal people, and they themselves are mostly untouched.

The results are pretty hilarious

#1 Enchanted Paradise by Johanna Hailey

#2 Rogue starring Not-Fabio, Dan.

#3 Tender is the Storm by Johanna Lindsey

#4 El Hombre de mis Suenos by Johanna Lindsey

#5 Gentle Rogue by Johanna Lindsey

#6 Enchant the Heavens by Kathleen Morgan

#7 Savage Thunder by Johanna Lindsey

#8 The Shadow and the Star by Laura Kinsale

#9 Scoundrel’s Captive by JoAnn Delazzari

#10 Warrior’s Woman by Johanna Lindsey

As you can see, the results are pretty goddamn funny.
