Cutting someone’s hair without their permission is a violation of their rights.

So you can imagine the reaction when a mother gets a call from her school that they decided to shave all her hair off. Let’s take it back for a second. Denise Robinson is a mother of a sweet seven year old girl named Tru. She was taken to a salon by a clinician from the Little Heroes Home, where she then had her hair shaved off.

As you can imagine, this caused a lot of distress.

But I’m sure they had their reasons, right? It’s not like they’ll do something as serious as this and not have valid reasons, right?

They cited vague claims of “hygiene” without evidence or consent. The mother, Robinson, told CBS News:

For them to do this, it’s very upsetting, not just to me but to her.

There was no hygienic reason for them to shave my child’s head. There were no head lice. There were no bed bugs. There was no what I refer to as ‘rasta locks’ going on.
Her hair was two pony tails on the side on Saturday and it was braided in the ponytails and there was nothing wrong.

To NECN, she had something else to say as well:

I am very upset. And I’m not going to stop being upset because I feel like my child was assaulted and violated.

The mother was in turmoil.

Like most, she took to social media to vent her frustrations.

I’m going to need bail money for real!! Tru’s school cut her hair without telling me.

…Tru has a fade. We did not give anyone permission to do this!

Just so people can see this is why I’m mad! 3 pix from this year. Her holding the flower 2 days ago! This is why I’m mad.

The pictures she’s referring to have since been deleted, and if you think the fun stops there, just wait. Robinson’s lawyer stated that perhaps the reason was racially motivated.

Here’s what he said:

The volunteer informed this seven-year-old biracial child that by shaving her head, her hair would grow back straight. I find that appalling.

Obviously, the incident has gotten a lot of attention since.

The Little Heroes Home also gave a statement of their own:

Decisions regarding grooming are based on a variety of factors, including hygiene.

We cannot provide any information about any individual served by the programme under federal and state law. A review of the circumstances is underway to determine what occurred and, if necessary, appropriate action will be taken.

The Department of Children and Families and Child Protective Services were contacted and made aware of the situation, but they haven’t confirmed whether or not they’re going to investigate the matter.
