They featured a black kid wearing a “coolest monkey in the jungle”. The problem here was that the viewers and those offended by the hoodie were racially charged and saw racism in everything, including the playfulness of a monkey and immediately saw it as an attack on black people.

And people like me had to be explained why it was racist. Because unlike them, we don’t automatically associate monkeys with black people, and more so energy, playfulness and giddiness. Many artists came forward with their own opinion and statement on the piece.

She posted on her Instagram her thoughts on the matter, and she, much like many, didn’t see it as a problem.
“Am the mum and this is one of hundreds of outfits my son has modelled,” she wrote. “Stop crying Wolf all the time, unnecessary issue here. Get over it.”
