Goodest Girl Comes Home With A Baby Koala Whose Life She Just Saved

I have to move to Australia sometime soon.

I mean who knew that people find baby koalas roaming around in their backyards in Australia? If I knew that, I would have moved there years ago. You see this is a story of how one alone and probably scared koala wandered into someone’s backyard and decided to snuggle with a dog.

The baby might have needed warmth, and his own fur coat wasn’t helping so Asha (a golden retriever) was happy enough to help the poor baby. It is safe to say the owners of Asha were surprised to see a baby koala snuggling into Asha in the morning but Kerry McKinnon from Strathdownie in Western Victoria remarks that it was undeniably hilarious.

This is the golden retriever Asha who saved the baby koala.

It was quite early in the morning, and my husband yelled out to me to come have a look at something. I didn’t know what he was talking about at first but then I saw this tiny koala snuggled on top of Asha.

And this is the famous koala.

I just burst out laughing. Poor Asha didn’t know what to think, she just kept looking at me with such a confused look. She looked a bit guilty when I came out to see what was going on. Her expression was hilarious.

She kept looking back at the koala but she wasn’t trying to get him off her or anything. She was happy to let him snuggle into her.

Unsurprisingly, the koala didn’t want to let go of Asha.

I think the baby koala fell out of his mum’s pouch and didn’t know what to do. He would have just wandered over to our back porch and seen the dogs in their beds, then decided to snuggle in Asha’s fur because it’s nice and warm.

But they got him off and took care of him.

Asha definitely saved the koala’s life by keeping him warm. He would have died out there if left alone all night. The poor thing could have been taken by a fox or something too.

The koala didn’t like that the humans were taking him away from his friend.

I think dogs have that protective instinct. The koala didn’t want to leave Asha’s back. When we took the koala off to wrap it in a blanket, it hissed at me and carried on.

The koala is now in the care of a koala caretaker and will be released in the wild when he can live on his own.

I think it would have been happy to have just slept there all day. It was really an amazing thing to see and so uniquely Australian.

As you can imagine people were quite smitten with the golden retriever.

It really is too sweet.
