This Father’s Rules For Dating His Daughters Are Amazing & There’s A Powerful Twist

There’s this cliche of a father having aggressive overprotective rules for the boyfriend of his daughters.

And I always love hearing about them in the news. It’s just so amusing watching the guy sweat under a usually tall, hulking, bearded jacked dude telling them that they’ll break his spine if he breaks her heart.

But one such father decided to go a different route.

He wrote the simple guideline in an instagram post.

He’s the father of not one, not two, not three, but five girls.

Writing, he said:

You’ll have to ask them what their rules are. I’m not raising my little girls to be the kind of women who need their daddy to act like a creepy, possessive bada*s in order for them to be treated with respect. You will respect them, and if you don’t, I promise they won’t need my help putting you back in your place. Good luck pumpkin.

In an interview, he did say that he felt and understood paternal protectiveness.

Quite simply, he said he didn’t care what they did because his daughters were taught to take care of themselves.

I understand the urge to protect your daughters. I get that. But the kind of posturing by fathers of daughters I was specifically responding to had nothing to do with that ‘protective instinct’ and everything to do with asserting their dominance over women and reinforcing a belief that women need men to take care of them.”

J. Warren Welch is definitely a dad you should follow.

His post exceeded a lot of shares and likes, and maybe it will usher in more women who learn to defend themselves rather than rely on men to protect them.

My daughter gave me this Captain America shirt for father's day a couple years ago. I'm really more of a Deadpool guy…
