Billy Magnussen, who is already well known for playing unlikeable characters like Rapunzel’s Prince in Into the Woods, Nicky Sloane in Ingrid Goes West, and Kato Kaelin in American Crime Story, will enter in the Aladin franchise as Prince Anders. It’s however still a mystery that how a blue eyed, blonde hair man ended up in Agrabah, and people are talking.

This controversial casting decision has led to some serious accusation of white washing the Aladin franchise.

People are wondering why Disney would introduce such an alien character to the original 1992 animated classic. Previously the casting decisions for Aladin have always been careful to pick Middle Eastern and Arabic actors to portray the beloved characters. So why anomaly to destroy what has always been so close to many hearts.

Twitter is furious about the seemingly random casting:

They’re upset about an extra character.

I think it’s a little funny how they’re offended on someone else’s behalf.

The new Aladin movie will star the newcomer Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine.

Marwan Kenzari will play the role of weirdly sexy Jafar.

Will Smith has been signed on to play as the Genie.

Magnussen isn’t the only one playing an original character.

Nasim Pedrad, a Saturday Night Live alum, will step in as Mara, a handmaiden, and friend to Jasmine.

One can certainly argue that it would be too harsh to judge Prince Anders before he actually plays the “Magic” on the big screen… But to enter a white guy in the original franchise must need to be backed by a solid story. Let’s see how they play us with their new white guy. Your thoughts?
